Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Jeremiah Nunan:
Ordained in Ireland, Father Jeremiah Nunan was accused of sexually abusing a boy three decades prior to taking a leave of absence from ministry. He denied the allegations against him and his parish was told that the leave was taken voluntarily. The victim who finally came out in 2006, claimed that he had tried to come forward with allegations against Jeremiah Nunan two years prior, but was ignored by the Dioceses of Albany.
Shortly after the investigation, they cleared Nunan of all charges, and let him return to his previous assignment in Cairo, NY. The plaintiff from the first suit sadly died, but the case continued on. New allegations were brought forth in April of 2012, with two brothers also claiming that they had been abused by Father Jeremiah Nunan. It was noted that Nunan had tried to pay one of the brothers to keep quiet, a few years before they filed the lawsuit.
The Diocese announced in June of 2018 that Jeremiah Nunan was permanently barred from ministry due to the accusations of sexual abuse being found credible in the 1990s. His current whereabouts since he was removed from the ministry are unknown.
His name also appeared on the list of "Clergy Credibly Accused While Serving in the Diocese of Albany," which was released in November of 2018.
