Summary of Abuse Allegations against Brother John Justin O’Connor:

Br. John Justin O’Connor was a member of the Congregation of Christian Brothers. He was a teacher and school administrator at Christian Brothers’ schools for decades. According to media reports, in April 2012, two former students at Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx, New York reported that he repeatedly sexually abused them in the mid-1980s when he was the Dean of Discipline.

“Two to three times a week he’d single you out in class or put you in detention, then have his way with you and terrorize you,” said one alleged victim.

In 1987, O’Connor left the school and was transferred to another assignment. He was later appointed as headmaster of Iona Preparatory School in New Rochelle, and as a member of the Board of Trustees at Iona College in New Rochelle.

In April 2011, the Order filed bankruptcy which allowed for the allegations to be made. The Education Department of the State of New York initiated a proceeding to revoke O’Connor’s certificate as a school district administrator. His current whereabouts and whether he has access to children are unknown.
