Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Eugene Maio:
Fr. Eugene Maio was ordained a Jesuit priest in 1960 who served in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. According to media reports, he was named in a civil lawsuit alleging he sexually abused a minor in 1963 at Marymount High School in Los Angeles, California. At the time, Fr. Maio was on the faculty at the Jesuits’ Loyola University. Fr. Maio was laicized in 1970. He then moved to Ohio and taught Spanish at the University of Akron until his retirement in 1996, after which he began working in church programs in Santo Domingo.
Fr. Maio was included in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ 2004 list of Priests accused of sexual misconduct involving minors” and, on the Jesuits’ U.S., Central and Southern Province’s 2018 List of Jesuits with Credible Accusations of Sexual Abuse of a Minor.
It is believed that or 1971. Fr. Maio was reportedly living in Akron, Ohio, in approximately 2003. Fr. Maio’s current whereabouts and whether he has access to children are unknown.
