Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Valentine Tugade:

Father Valentine Tugade was an extern priest visiting from the Philippines who worked briefly in California. According to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, at least one person has come forward alleging he sexually abused him as a child from approximately 1978 to 1984. He was named, along with six other priests in a civil suit filed in 1984, alleging the sexual abuse of a teen girl from 1978 to 1984. One of the priests suggested that she get an abortion, then devised a plan to send her to the Philippines to have the child.

According to media reports, in 2003, a state court proved by a DNA test Father Tugade fathered a child born of the abuse. His name appeared on the 2004 Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ list of clergy credibly accused of sex abuse of minors. His last known location was in Fremont, CA in 2002. Claims against him and the other six accused priests were settled for $500,000 as part of a $660 million settlement. His current whereabouts are unknown.
