Summary of Abuse Allegations against Bishop Carroll Dozier:

Bishop Carroll Dozier was assigned to three parishes in the Diocese of Richmond before being appointed as the first bishop of the Diocese of Memphis in 1970.  Bishop Dozier remained in that position until he resigned due to ill health in 1982.  He died in 1985.

In February 2019, Bishop Dozier‘s name appeared publicly on the Diocese of Richmond’s list of clergy credibly accused of sex abuse of minors. The allegation was reported after his death, but no additional information was provided about the allegation, such as the age/gender of the victim or Dozier’s assignment at the time of the alleged abuse.  In fact, even the exact number of allegations made against him is unclear from the little information provided by the Richmond Diocese.
