Brother Edward (Kyrin) Powers joined the Xaverians in 1948. He served as an educator throughout his career. According to media reports, in 2013, he was accused of sexually abusing a child in Brooklyn in the 1970s. He left the Xaverian Brothers in 1988 and died in 2001.

In July 2019, his name appeared publicly on the Archdiocese of Baltimore’s list of clergy credibly accused of sex abuse of minors, as well as the Xaverian Brothers’ list.
