Summary of Abuse Allegations against Monsignor Walter Rosensweig:
According to media reports, in March 1996, a man sued Monsignor Walter Rosensweig and the Diocese of Tucson alleging abuse on at least two occasions in 1981 while he was a parishioner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nogales, Arizona. Diocesan officials were not aware of the man who filed the lawsuit, but immediately notified law enforcement of the accusation.
Monsignor Rosensweig denied the allegations. He was placed on leave in 1996. The Diocese of Tucson reached an undisclosed settlement with his accuser in August 1997.
Monsignor Walter Rosensweig retired in 2001. In June 2002, he was removed from ministry. His name appeared publicly on the Diocese of Tucson’s list of clergy credibly accused of sexual abuse of minors.
In November 2003, he was named in a second lawsuit. He is believed to still be alive and has never been criminally convicted of the allegations against him.
