Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Albert Gondek:

Father Albert Gondek was ordained a priest in 1966, and served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of Raleigh. According to media reports, in December of 2015, he was placed on administrative leave after an allegation was made that he sexually abused several minors about five years prior. Gondek was instructed not to publicly celebrate Mass or exercise ministry during the investigation. An 18 year old adult male also reported that Gondek touched him in an unwanted sexual manner during confession.  The man also claimed that Gondek said he did the same thing with several minors.  In response to the allegations, Gondek was instructed to undergo evaluation and counseling by the Diocese of Raleigh.

Gondek had also been investigated over a second set of allegations in 2007. A man alleged that Gondek has molested him as a teen at a Maryland summer camp in 1960. Gondek was briefly placed on leave and was reinstated after two investigations found no evidence of wrongdoing.

The decision to place Gondek on leave was made by the Wilmington-Philadelphia Province of the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales, which oversees schools, parishes and other ministries from Boston to Florida, including in North Carolina.

Strangely, Gondek has appeared on the Diocese of Raleigh’s list of credibly accused priests and been removed without any explanation – multiple times.

According to the Oblates, Gondek now resides at the Oblates’ retirement community in Maryland.
