Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Charles Moore:
According to his obituary, Fr. Charles Moore worked in the Diocese of Monterey from 1964 until his retirement in 2006. In 2019, Fr. Charles Moore name was included on the Diocese of Monterey’s 2019 List of Credibly Accused Clergy of Sexual Abuse. Very little is known of Moore’s activities within the church as the Diocese of Monterey has not formally released any information about Moore’s assignment history. Additionally, information about the age/gender of his alleged victims, the nature of the alleged sexual abuse, or Moore’s assignments at the time of the alleged abuse is unknown. The list does note that there was a report received in 2003 against Fr. Charles Moore in reference to sexual abuse that took place in 1974.
According to media reports, Moore graduated from Stanford University and Law School in 1954, he was elected District Attorney in Santa Cruz County. After leaving that position, Father Charlie devoted his full attention to religious studies and in 1964 was ordained a Roman Catholic priest. After Moore retired from ministry he continued to share his spiritual journey with others. In 2006, he published a book titled, “Synthesis Remembered: Awakening Original Innocence.”
The following year, in 2007, Fr. Moore died.
