Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Harold Greif:

Fr. Harold Greif was a ordained priest of the Oregon Province in 1940. He spent most of his priesthood in Alaska, but served briefly in the Diocese of San Jose. According to media reports, in 2010, the Diocese of Fairbanks revealed in the bankruptcy reorganization documents that Greif was accused of sexual abuse by at least two people.

Fr. Greif was assigned to Holy Rosary in Dillingham, Alaska, when George Endal, another accused priest, served as a pastor there from 1952-1962. Endal was named in a 2011 settlement as one of the Jesuits’ top ten worst alleged offenders, with 25 claims of child sexual abuse of both boys and girls against him. In addition, when Greif was assigned to St. Joseph’s in Nome, Alaska, James Poole was a pastor there from 1969-1979. Poole has been the subject of multiple accusations of sexual abuse of young girls.

In 2018, Greif was included on the Jesuits West Province list of clergy credibly accused of child sexual abuse. It noted allegations reported in 2009 in reference to abuse that took place in 1950-1954, 1960, 1978, and 1981. Information about the age/gender of his alleged victim/victims or the nature of the alleged sexual abuse is unknown.

Fr. Greif died in 1991.
