Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Hector Coria:
From 2012 to 2014, Fr. Hector Coria engaged in a sexual relationship with a teenage altar girl, who, in public statements, characterized it as consensual. Coria was arrested in 2014 on charges of statutory rape and oral copulation while assigned to St. James in Davis, CA. His conduct led to criminal charges in Yolo Superior Court. He pleaded guilty to a felony count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor and was sentenced to 90 days in jail with three years’ probation and sex offender counseling.
According to the victim’s lawyer, Coria was forbidden to contact the girl until she turned 18, despite admitted during hearing that the sex was consensual. After all, statutory rape is still statutory rape. Coria was removed from ministry upon receipt of the report and was voluntarily dismissed from the priesthood in 2014.
Coria returned to court in December 2017 after completing his probation, successfully petitioning to have the felony charge reduced to a misdemeanor and dismissed. He remains stripped of his priesthood and living in California.
Coria was included on the Diocese of Sacramento list of clergy credibly accused of sexually abusing a minor.
