Father James J. Gormley was a member of the Jesuit order. He served at Scranton Prep in the 1940s and 1950s. He then moved throughout Pennsylvania and the U.S. until 2000. He died in 2005. 

In October 2019, Father Gormley‘s name first appeared publicly on the Diocese of Scranton’s and the Diocese of Richmond’s lists of clergy credibly accused of sex abuse of minors. No additional information about the number or nature of allegations against Gormley has been provided, such as the age/gender of his victims or Gormley’s assignment at the time of the alleged abuse.
