Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Louis Hamm:

Fr. Louis Hamm was a Franciscan priest from Germany. He worked as a physician and Holy Name Province Franciscan friar in China beginning in 1934, and was ordained there in 1949. He arrived in the US in 1951 and worked for the Province in NC, GA, NJ, and RI. The 1986 volume of the Official Catholic Directory shows Hamm at the Franciscan Home for Retired Priests in St. Petersburg, FL.

Fr. Hamm was named publicly as accused by the FL Attorney General report released in 2020. The details of the sexual abuse allegations, including when and where the alleged abuse occurred, or the victim’s age/gender, are unknown.

In October 2021, the Holy Name Province published a list of Franciscan friars with substantiated child sexual abuse and misconduct claims following a review of its files by an advisory firm. Louis Hamm was one of 23 the friars named.

Hamm died in Butler, NJ in 1988 at the age of 86.
