Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Martin Fleming:

Father Martin Fleming was ordained a priest in 1898, who served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of Scranton. According to media reports, in April 2006, the Diocese of Venice (Florida) received a report that a woman was sexually abused by Fleming in 1940 when she was 6 years old.  She came forward to make the report because she was in heart failure and did not want to die before telling her truth. She said this “deepest secret” kept coming back to “trouble her spirits and cause her emotional distress.”

Fleming died in 1950. His status at the time is unclear as the Diocese of Scranton assignment history does not indicate any assignments after 1919.

He was first named publicly as accused in the 2018 PA Grand Jury Report. Fleming’s name was included on the Diocese of Scranton 2018 list of clergy credibly accused of child sexual abuse.
