Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Raymond Devlin:
Fr. Raymond A. Devlin, S.J., was ordained a Jesuit Priest and worked in the Diocese of Albany for approximately one year at the beginning of his priesthood before heading out west. It was reported in 1990 to the Diocese of Salt Lake City that Devlin sexually abused minors and vulnerable adults while living in Ogden, UT.
According to media reports, one of the victims was a 14-year-old boy that claimed he was sexually abused at a track clinic in California back in 1989. The boy awoke to Devlin fondling him and he ran away.
He was then removed by his Order from the Salt Lake City Diocese and given new assignments without contact with children. Devlin was also barred from performing marriages, baptisms, leading public masses, hearing confessions, etc., but still able to practice. He was later sent to Sacred Heart Jesuit Center in Los Gatos, CA, where he lived until his death.
In December 2018, Devlin’s name first appeared publicly on the Diocese of Salt Lake City’s list of clergy credibly accused of sex abuse of minors. In April 2019, his name appeared publicly on the Diocese of Las Vegas’ list, and the Diocese of Stockton 2020 list. He was also included on the Jesuits West Province list.
