Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Monsignor Paul Conway
In February 2019, the Diocese of Alexandria publicly named Msgr. Paul Conway in its list of clergy credibly accused of sexual abuse against a minor. According to the list, Msgr. Conway allegedly assaulted female minors in 1956.
The Permanent Review Board, which evaluates allegations of clerical sexual abuse of minors, reviewed these allegations and deemed them credible. In 2005 and 2017, the Diocese of Shreveport settled with the victims. Further details about the nature of the abuse are not publicly known.
News reports also indicate that Msgr. Conway served as a director of the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) in Alexandria starting in 1952. The CYO offered faith-based education, athletic activities, and social events for youth in the area. Msgr. Conway remained involved with CYO for approximately 30 years.
According to sources, Msgr. Paul Conway was ordained July 10, 1938, and served in parishes in the Diocese of Shreveport, which was formally underneath the Diocese of Alexandria until 1986.
On March 11, 1971, Msgr. Conway was reassigned from Sacred Heart Church to St. Joseph Church at Colfax, where he would serve as pastor. Later, in an interview with the Town Talk in December 1980, Msgr. Conway said he was retired and living in Pineville. Msgr. Conway died in 1996.
