Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Monsignor Peter Denges:
Monsignor Peter Martin Denges was ordained a priest in 1927, and served in the Diocese of Raleigh. He was also made Dean of the Eastern Deanery in 1951. From 1929 to 1949 he ran Camp Denges in Abell, MD with his brother, Monsignor Joseph Denges.
According to media reports, he was named on its list of clergy credibly accused of child sexual abuse in October 2018. For a clergy member to be listed, the Review Board of the Diocese of Raleigh or another authority determined that the allegation made has a semblance of truth. This list covers the period from 1950 to 2018.
The allegations against Monsignor Denges were received in 2005, and related to abuse occurring in the 1950s. No further information has been given about the number of victims or the nature of the abuse. Denges was pastor of St. John the Baptist in Roanoke Rapids at the time.
Monsignor Denges died on July 27th, 1985.
