According to media reports, Sr. Bernadette Marie of the Sisters of Mercy was accused in a lawsuit of sexual abuse of a minor from 1966 to 1967 while she was assigned to St. Teresa of Avila in Albany, New York. She was part of the 52 new suits against the Albany Diocese alleging sexual abuse by priests/nuns. The Diocese of Albany did not give any information on the allegation regarding the age/gender of the victim or the nature of the alleged sexual abuse.

Marie died in 2006.
