Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Mortimer Melican:

According to media reports, Fr. Mortimer Melican was ordained a priest in 1951. In April 2019, his name appeared on the Archdiocese of New York’s list of clergy credibly accused of sex abuse of minors. The claims against him are eligible for the Independent Reconciliation and Compensation Program (IRCP).

Very little is known of Melican’s activities within the church as the Archdiocese of New York has not released any information about Melican’s assignment history. In addition, information about the age/gender of his alleged victim/victims, the nature of the alleged sexual abuse, or Melican’s assignments at the time of the alleged abuse is unknown.

Melican left the ministry prior to his death in 2002.
