A visiting priest from Mexico, Fr. Esteban Trujillo reportedly worked in the Diocese of San Bernardino from 2001 to 2002. According to the Diocese of San Bernardino, Fr. Trujillo was accused of abusing a child in 1998 and 2001 in Mexico. Fr. Trujillo is believed to have served at St. George in Fontana and St. Charles Borromeo in Bloomington from 2001 to 2002. Fr. Trujillo was included in the Diocese of San Bernardino’s list of clergy credibly accused of child sexual abuse. As of 2003, Fr. Trujillo was believed to be residing in Mexico. According to the Diocese of San Bernardino, Fr. Trujillo has been permanently banned from ministry in the Diocese.

Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Fidencio Silva-Flores:

According to a list of priests credibly accused of sexual misconduct released by the Diocese of San Bernardino in October of 2018, in 1998, it became aware of allegations that Fidencio Silva-Flores engaged in child sexual abuse in 1979-1985 and 1995 in Oxnard and Lynnwood, CA. The incidents from the early eighties involved the alleged sexual abuse of eight boys at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Oxnard, CA.

Silva-Flores was removed in 1998, when he was serving at St. Philip Neri in Lenwood, CA. In 2002, he was charged with 25 counts of felony child molestation. Overall, Fr. Silva-Flores has been accused by at least 28 people of child sexual abuse occurring between 1979 and 1985 and named in at least 15 civil lawsuits alleging child sexual abuse.

Silva-Flores is considered permanently banned from ministry in the Diocese of San Bernardino and is believed to be living in his native country of Mexico.

Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Frank A. Sierra:

Fr. Frank A. Sierra was accused by multiple survivors of child sexual abuse while serving at Holy Cross in Santa Cruz, New Mexico, in the 1960s.

In 1970, Fr. Sierra moved to the Diocese of San Diego, where he allegedly continued to abuse children. According to the Diocese of San Diego, Fr. Sierra worked at St. Joseph in Upland from 1970 to 1974, and in 1988, Fr. Sierra retired. Fr. Sierra was accused in a 1994 civil lawsuit of sexually abusing girls in Santa Cruz, NM.

Fr. Sierra was removed from ministry in 2002. Fr. Sierra was included in the Diocese of San Diego’s list of priests where the Diocese has received a credible allegation involving sexual abuse of a minor. He was also included in the Archdiocese of Santa Fe’s list of clergy accused of child sexual abuse. Fr. Sierra’s whereabouts and whether he had access to children from approximately 1994 until his death in 2013 are unknown.

Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Charles Rourke:

According to the Diocese of San Bernardino, Fr. Charles Rourke was accused of sexually abusing a child in 1979. According to a Special Pastoral Report from Diocese of Tucson in 2003, records revealed a failure to report allegations against Fr. Rourke and that the Diocese of Tucson continued to give Rourke assignments after allegations came to light.

Fr. Rourke was suspended from ministry in 1984 for alcohol-related medical reasons. He took a leave of absence from 1969-1973 and was assigned to the Archdiocese of Santa Fe. He returned to Tucson from 1973-1975 and 1981-1984, with another leave of absence from 1975-1981 between those assignments. He was removed from ministry in 1979.

Fr. Rourke died by suicide in April 1993, while under investigation for alleged sexual abuse of children in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Diocese of Tucson said it became aware of the child abuse allegations after his death.

Father Rourke has been named in at least one civil lawsuit, which was settled in 2006 as part of the Diocese of Tucson bankruptcy.  In October 2018, Fr. Rourke was named in the Diocese of San Bernardino and Tucson’s list of Clergy Credibly Accused of Child Sexual Abuse, as well as the on the Archdiocese of Santa Fe’s.

Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Carlos Rene Rodriguez:

Fr. Carlos Rodriguez was accused by at least six people of child sexual abuse from 1984 to 1994 and has been named in at least five civil lawsuits since. In 1987, Fr. Rodriguez confessed to sexually abusing a 16-year-old boy. In 1988, Fr. Rodriguez was sent to St. Luke Institute, an institution known for treating priests accused of child sexual abuse. In 1993, Fr. Rodriguez left the Vincentian community and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles removed his faculties as a priest. He was laicized in 1998.

In 2004, Fr. Rodriguez was convicted of sexually abusing two boys while working at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Santa Paula in the 1990s and was sentenced to eight years in prison. In January 2008, Fr. Rodriguez was released from prison on parole.

As of 2013, Fr. Rodriguez residing at a private residence in Huntington Beach and registered as a sex offender in California. In 2016, Rodriguez was found ministering at a church in Los Angeles with no affiliation to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles; he was using the name, Carlos Ramirez. He was removed after the church found out about his history.

In a lawsuit filed in October 2018, Fr. Rodriguez was accused again of sexually abusing two minor boys (aged 7 and 12) at Our Lady of Guadalupe in the 1990s. The lawsuit alleged that Fr. Rodriguez was working at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Riverside, CA, in the early 1990s. Fr. Rodriguez was included in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ list of priests accused of sexual misconduct involving minors. Fr. Rodriguez’s current whereabouts and whether he has access to children are unknown.

Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Terrence Reilly:

At least three people have accused Fr. Terrence Reilly of child sexual abuse. Ordained a Dominican Priest, Fr. Reilly was accused in a civil lawsuit in 2003 alleging child sexual abuse. According to the Diocese of San Bernardino, Fr. Reilly worked at Notre Dame High School in Riverside, CA, from 1988 to 1993 when the Diocese became aware of sexual abuse allegations involving Fr. Reilly.

In 2002, a victim reported child sexual abuse by Fr. Reilly while he was a student at Daniel Murphy High School in 1976. Fr. Reilly has also been accused of child sexual abuse at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Los Angeles. It was rumored that in 2003, Fr. Reilly was sent to live at St. Albert’s Priory in Oakland, CA, a location where many accused priests were housed.

Fr. Reilly was included on the Diocese of San Bernardino’s 2018 list of clergy credibly accused of child sexual abuse. He was also included in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ list of priests accused of sexual misconduct involving minors and on Dominicans St. Joseph Province list in late 2018. Fr. Reilly died in 2016.

Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Ponciano Ramos:

In 1992, Fr. Ponciano Ramos was accused of sexually abusing three boys at St. Rita Catholic School in Indianapolis, Indiana. The boys were 13 and 14 at the time of sexual abuse.

According to the lawsuit, the incident began when the three boys set off two stink bombs in the school, after which all three were forced to submit to a strip search by Fr. Ramos. “The touching that occurred during the course of these was done in a rude, insolent and angry manner,” according to a plea agreement in the case. He eventually pled guilty to criminal charges of child sexual abuse and was sentenced to an 18-month suspended sentence and 15 months of probation.

Following the conviction, Fr. Ramos was briefly moved to Chicago and then to the Diocese of San Bernardino. He was removed from ministry in 2002. Less than a year later, in 2003, the Diocese of San Bernardino allowed Ramos to return to active ministry.

Fr. Ramos was included in the Diocese of San Bernardino’s 2018 list of clergy credibly accused of sexual abuse of minors. According to the list, the diocese became aware of Ramos’ misdemeanors in 2002 and removed him. Fr. Ramos was permanently banned from ministry in the diocese, however, Fr. Ramos was reportedly working at Divine Word Seminary in Riverside, California, until 2017. His status as a priest, whereabouts, and whether he had access to children from 2017 to the present, is unknown.

According to the Diocese of San Bernardino, Fr. Louis G. Perreault was accused of sexually abusing a minor from 1990 to 1992, while serving at Our Lady of the Valley in Hemet, CA. The victim was between the ages of 13 and 15 at the time of the abuse. The diocese was made aware of allegations in 2011, and it was reported to law enforcement. In 2019, a civil lawsuit was filed against the Diocese of San Bernardino.

Fr. Perreault was permanently banned from ministry in the diocese and retired without faculties. Fr. Perreault was included in the Diocese of San Bernardino’s 2018 list of clergy credibly accused of child sexual abuse. Fr. Perreault’s whereabouts and whether he has access to children from 2018 until his death in 2020, is unknown.
